Also Odysseus told them not to whip the beggars so hard. The Greeks were surprised since the journey did not take as nearly as long as they thought it would and the princesses weren't with him then Odysseus showed them the Luck of Troy. Odysseus stole the Luck of Troy and returned the Greek camp. It retells the story of the Trojan war, the Iliad by Homer. Many of the characters include royalty and warriors from Sparta and Troy as well as Greek gods who liked to interfere in their lives. Odysseus went and got to the temple that held the Luck of Troy and pretended to be asleep while the vial was next to him the priestess drank the liquid and fell asleep. In the book Black Ships Before Troy by Rosemary Sutcliff, she rewrites the story of Homers Iliad for young readers. Helen gave him a vial that was filled with a liquid that can make you sleep peacefully Odysseus took it and told her that if she ever saw him that she should not address him and that he will only address her as someone who kindly helped him. Helen brought the beggar to her and Paris's house she ran a bath for the beggar and the beggar told Helen what happened to her family and as the water washed off the dirt she realized he is not a "beggar" he was really Odysseus. Odysseus dressed as a beggar and went around telling stories and then was whipped for stealing Nestor's gold cup. When he was actually no his way to go get the Luck of Troy. Odysseus had the idea of going to get the King of Delo's daughter who could make wine from water, bread from stones, and olive oil out of water.

And the whole book is the story of how they learn to like each other. You feel that Sly and Spencer don’t really like each other at first, but that they experience an irresistible attraction to each other. I hadn’t seen that much chemistry between two characters in a long time. I thought the author’s previous book was good. Trouble is a stand-alone enemies-to-lovers billionaire-boss romance. Spencer Carrollton always gets what he wants. Until he pulls me out of danger and insists I move in with him to be safe.Īs the nights pass and we grow closer, I know I’m losing this fight. He’s an arrogant billionaire who thinks I’ll fall at his feet, but I’m not going down that road again. He’s possessive, demanding, and the best sex I’ve ever had. I never get involved with clients, but Spencer Carrollton is wickedly handsome in a bespoke suit. Then he gave me a job when I needed it the most. But his naughty eyes flashed, his full lips curled into a knowing smile, and I should have run. When I collided with him at my cousin’s wedding, I wasn’t looking for love. Spencer Carrollton is a dark-haired, hazel-eyed beast. Legend has it, the man you kiss at a wedding is the man you’ll marry. Indeed, the only thing “Hamilton” could really be dinged for is a bit of hero worship toward Hamilton, the man. There has simply never been anything like it on Broadway. To list its many achievements would take the length of the Ron Chernow biography that inspired it, but in summary: it is the origin story of Founding Father and first Secretary of Treasury Alexander Hamilton it combines hip-hop and rap with traditional Broadway balladry in dizzying fashion its brilliant creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, has been awarded the MacArthur Genius Grant and the Smithsonian Ingenuity Award, and is predicted to win the Pulitzer and sweep the Tonys in 2016 (the Hamiltonys, as has been spoken). You’ve probably heard of the hit musical “Hamilton,” unless you’ve been living back in the eighteenth century in which it’s set. It is a lovely, squishy, feel-good, slow-burn romance that was actually great as an election night distraction. The only thing missing is the inclusion of nice little babies.Īnd there is nothing wrong with any of that. It’s a nice book about nice people (vampires) getting together to form a nice, supportive relationship amongst their nice families/friends. If I had to choose one adjective, I’d say it’s nice. It puts a whimsical spin on traditional vampire lore, while also creating a vivid new world where love is love. Lore and Lust is an exploration of cultures, contemporary society and romance. Truly, he is unlike any vampire Haruka has ever encountered: cautious, innocent and with the warmth and gravitational pull of the sun. When he receives a formal request to oversee an antiquated vampire ritual at Hertsmonceux Castle, Haruka grudgingly leaves his home to meet another purebred. As an elite purebred vampire in the twenty-first century, he is broken. Haruka Hirano is alive, but not quite living. The slow burn vampire romance you didn’t know you needed… I purchased a paperback copy of Lore & Lust directly from the author, Karla Nikole, after seeing an Instagram post about having some for sale. With his debut novel, The Grace of Kings, taking the literary world by storm, Ken Liu now shares his finest short fiction in The Paper Menagerie. Utterly unsurprised that Liu has won so many awards for his short fiction, and I really have nothing bad to say about this collection. His debut full-length novel The Grace of Kings reviewed here, was my top book of 2015, and several of the stories within The Paper Menagerie were equally fantastic. For an author who has almost exclusively published in only the last five or six years, to be able to put together a short story collection of only major award winning and finalist stories is pretty remarkable. Ken Liu however, has proven that true artistry is possible in any length of fiction. I’ve never really been a fan of short stories in general, because I find they often lack enough content to really tell a compelling story. The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories is a collection of short stories from Chinese-American author Ken Liu.
